Medicare Programs

The Better Access initiative aims to improve outcomes for people with a clinically diagnosed mental disorder through evidence-based treatment. To access this rebate, your child’s GP will complete a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) which outlines their presenting issues, therapeutic goals, and the treatment required. A MHCP will need to be obtained before your child’s first session. A Medicare rebate can then be claimed for a portion of your child’s session fee for between 6 to 10 sessions per calendar year.

There are also additional Medicare programs that your child may be eligible to access including a Chronic Disease Management Plan (up to five sessions of therapy per year) and the Allied Health Medicare services under the Helping Children with Autism Package (up to twenty sessions of therapy until your child turns 13 years old). There are still out-of-pocket fees associated with sessions using these programs.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

The NDIS is available to individuals with a significant and permanent disability who need assistance and support with a range of activities across their lifespan. Juniper Child Psychology can see individuals with self-managed and plan-managed NDIS plans. If you’re unsure how to apply for the NDIS, we can help!

Private Health Insurance

Contact your private health care provider to determine whether you are eligible for a rebate under your current level of cover. Psychological sessions are covered by most major private health funds.
